"Balam Huipil Remix" 36" x 48", Limited Edition Serigraph
A 6 color serigraph in a Limited Edition of 55 measuring 36" x 48"
Each color was hand drawn on film to create the color separations for the print. Each color was hand pulled by the master printer Joe Alpuche at Self Help Graphics & Art to create this edition. Each of the 6 films took me about 14 hours to draw to create the look of a huipil.
The hand drawn lines create the effect of a weaving to create a huipil (blouse). The symbols I created for this piece tell a story of grounding our selves in nature, the elements, reading, listening to music, dancing, riding a bike, transforming, and being yourself. These symbols protect and help us from the deforestation, global warming, depleting natural resources, gmo's, war, violence, processed food, and child labor. The blue eye amulet is used as protection from these events happening in our modern world. The jaguar represents the warrior spirit which speaks the words love in Arabic and Peace in Farsi. The lotus, Hunab Ku and the Om are for our spiritual connection to Creator, Buddha, God, Allah, the Divine, and our higher selves. This piece is a prayer for humanity.
This piece was part of Self Help Graphics & Art Atelier Communication Threads & Entwined Recollections curated by Victoria Delgadillo.
